Birthday's Monday. Yay me, another year older. Coolness. Anyway, if you contact me about Henaji without putting Henaji in either your subject or the body of your email, I'm probably not going to respond to you. Nothing personal, just in the age of spam and unwanted solicitations you should understand.

This month has been very hectic, and because my client can't  find another person to back me up, I can't really work on anything besides scripting and drawing. Inking happens when it happens, as does coloring.
College is going very well. I might actually pull good grades for this semester. I don't plan to take any classes during the summer, so I'll adopt my regular Tuesday/Thursday schedule with stuff posted on facebook and my deviantart account. When I update, it'll be on reddit as well as other places.

Until then, feel free to ask me questions about Henaji. If you must gripe about me not updating, that's fine too. Thanks for reading, and check back in the usual places because I will totally be continuing this.

Henaji News

Asking for questions/comments regarding Henaji/the Aether (world of Henaji). Thinking about doing an Ask the Aetherial section. Of course, you can always comment with your questions, and I'll answer them.   First question I'll answer is:


What's with the spotty updates lately?

I've been working a full time job as a medical aide for someone with cerebral palsy and dwarfism. She only has one hip and is permanently confined to a wheelchair. The hours themselves were surprises because one of her aides quit on her (the one who had her most of the day), and so I had to pick up those hours plus some because the other aide is very close to her due date.

Disclaimer: I'm not blaming either of these for anything that may or may not have arisen due to their conditions. Circumstances were just not right. I actually like working the full day with her, but I was not prepared to do so this week. My bad. I've adjusted now, and I find this job to be one of the most enjoyable I've had so far. I'll be working with her until August of this year (2013 for those of you reading the Archives). That doesn't mean I wont' update. I'll update and post that I've updated for people following me on Twitter/Facebook/Reddit/Tumblr. Spare time will be spent drawing extras and the like.

Henaji history

Been getting a lot of emails asking about the nature of Henaji and how it came to be. For those people, I say keep following the story, and all will reveal itself. However, here are some behind the scenes tidbits.

I originally came up with the idea of Henaji when I was in college completing my Animal and Dairy Science degree (yes, there are actual degrees for people who want to raise animals and milk cows for a living). I was in a relationship with two different people, and a lot of people saw this as strange. Being a person whose jealousy isn't triggered by the number of people involved with someone's significant other, I found their monogamy equally strange. So I came up with the concept of the Aether.
The Aether is a fantasy alter-dimension of modern day Earth. They're still mostly in the feudal era, but there are urban cities and rural villages. In the beginning, the Aether and Earth were one and the same, but as time went on, the elder gods saw Aetherials exploiting and harming humans: their pet creations. So they decreed that the two should be separate until such a time as they could coexist again.
Flash forward to Henaji and the current storyline. The elder gods are aware that their children the Aetherials have been very lax in their interpretation of their earlier decree, and as such, decided to open the borders so to speak. They would sponsor institutions such as Henaji in order to foster successful human-Aetherial relations (ignoring tales of such relations going hopelessly awry).
And so we have the present day Henaji, run by Raven and her cohorts.

No, Henaji's not going anywhere soon. I go home and my family wants me to do everything they don't want to do. Go figure. Not complaining, but I suddenly don't have a lot of me time. And I love my me time. It's when I draw and script. Expect a post Tuesday.

Dragon eyecon: or what I've been doing for shading practice

Expect something here by the end of the day. My grandma died of cancer, so a bit rushed as I answer my dad's calls and help with funeral preparations. But I'll have something up. Sorry.

Henaji Art Transition

Going to be trying out Manga Studio EX to ink and place the comic, as my trials for both photoshop/illustrator and Comic Life are expiring. I’ve heard great things about how sensitive it is, and I look forward to having more options. Just a heads up, so if any part of the comic looks different, you know what it is.

I’m having a Disneyworld type opening right now. Experiencing multiple power outages, so the strip will be up when we get that resolved. I still expect it to go up today, but it’s hard when the computer keeps shutting off because it’s a desktop. Wish me luck.

Remodeling

I've got some decisions to make about Henaji. This is going to result in a small delay with the second page, but in return, I'm going to fix up the first page as well. I basically have two character designs to choose from, and while I sort of know how I want said character to look the initial design is pretty darn cute! So I'm going to solve the quandary and get back to it. Expect the second page to go up later on Tuesday.

And so it begins... Still working out some kinks as well as trying to decide how to go about hosting this on a place that lets me have a character page, etc. Meanwhile, I'll keep updating. I suppose Henaji is indeed born on the first day of 2013. Awesome. The sister site to this is henaji.tumblr.com . Allright, time to get down to business with this idea of mine that's been percolating for around four years. Here's some backstory on me. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Animal Science, and I've been out of college for four years now. I'm going back for a second degree in Veterinary Medical Technology. Arting so I don't stagnate, and writing for just about the same reason. Henaji goes up in January 2013. Does this mean it will go up on New Years? No. First week in January's going to be my last bit of vacation before school starts, so expect something around the 7th or so. Schedule will be Tuesday and Thursday because I'd like to challenge myself at adhering to a schedule. So in all, this endeavor will be about challenges. Henaji's too young for resolutions, so don't even try that. Happy New Years, people.
